Microneedling or skin needling, originally termed collagen induction therapy (CIT) or percutaneous collagen induction (PCI), is a minimally invasive skin-rejuvenation procedure. Microneedling involves making thousands of controlled microscopic needle incisions in the papillary and reticular dermis. Using specially designed and manufactured sterile devices, the goal is to puncture the stratum corneum and induce a controlled injury response within tissue through a physical mechanism. Thousands of minute wounds are created in the skin with highly precise, sterile needles. Immediately after, the skin disperses old damaged connective tissue and replaces it with new. This process triggers new collagen synthesis. The result is smoother, firmer, and younger-looking skin and fainter scars/stretch marks.
